4 to hell and back stars
Eve is the last real woman on earth, there are others but they are in a form of a nymph, deadly to children and to men, turning men into aphids. She's lost everyone who ever meant anything to her, and no matter how committed she is to dying just the same, something about her is different making her immune to the disease.
Forced on a journey seeking safety and truth, she meets people along the way, both who wish her harm and those willing to protect her; mind, body and soul. Tormented with nightmares and visions, they are only at ease when there is skin-to-skin contact, but finding one you trust is hard to find especially when the choices are slim to none.

Eve has a sense of self discovery, finding things about herself with the help of her three guardians, the whys of it are unknown just the fact of what is and what isn't. She has more power than she ever realized and in order to succeed she has to drown out her fear and find a balance within.
Dead of Eve is a apocalyptic read about survival; surviving loss, love and a new world. The Eve we met in the beginning is no where near the Eve she is in the end, or as she calls it the eve of beginning. Although the men in her life have all come at different times in her life, nothing feels wrong or forced, each man has made a home for them in her heart and life. While I feel like I know Roark and Michio, Jesse has stolen my heart, his quiet strength and protection just made him my favorite of the trio.
Although there was a sense of closure, it was only for this chapter in their life and we know there is more to come. It was a satisfying highly enjoyable read, with just a little bit of everything; thrill, humor, passion and love. Recommended to those seeking something different, whose interest lie in a post apocalyptic world with paranormal / fantasy elements.
Though my soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light. I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night.

May 17, 2013I'm going to pull an Ash and not rate this book because I'm not sure what to think.
Trigger Warnings : Rape, bad pop culture references, incest, baby-kicking, bugs feasting on humans, religion bashing, grotesque race-mutating and medical experimenting, excessive gore, woman-shaming, abuse of sex toys, and a ridiculous lovetriangle pentagon.
If any book is going to get people talking it's going to be this. Are we talking in a good or bad way? Heck, I don't know. I can't imagine anyone reading through without having at least a couple of their buttons pushed.
This book was entertaining as all get-out. It was fierce, rough, and campy at the same time. A sex-crazed woman is left alone on earth among few men and multiple aphid-mutated humans. But for some reason, I wasn't laughing my way through the book, even though there were plenty of reasons to be laughing. There was actually a decent story foundation in place. The aphid virus and Evie's response to it was quite an interesting idea. This part of the equation was what made the read enjoyable (Roark didn't hurt either. Yum. If I was going to be facing down the end of life as we knew it, I'd want a Roark by my side).
Are aphids the new zombie?
What sort of trouble is an aphid-resistant, sex-junkie, badass female going to get into in a world of evil and gore? The answer is : A whole lot of trouble.
Where I (and other readers before me) have run into a roadblock is with the extremist views of the villains and how they tie to a specific religion and people. I'm not sure why this part of the story couldn't have been attributed to a broader, more vague belief system, or even something made up. The way it comes across (whether intended or not) is that there's a bias bordering on hate against certain belief systems.
I won't take the time to say much about the extreme gore and sexual assaults. There is a disclaimer in the synopsis, so I knew what I was getting into. Was it all a bit much? I think it might have been if the book is being marketed as more mainstream than taboo. I get that violence and perversion would come into play in a dog-eat-dog (or aphid-eat-human) end of the world scenario, but there comes a point where you can probably decide to limit the amount of graphic scenes to a handful and still have the same desired effect as you would have by including many.
Will I read book 2? I don't know. When I weigh the entertainment factor against some things which didn't sit right with me, it's a tough call to make. If nothing else, I'd be curious to see others read the book and give me their own interpretation of it.

I will start off by saying this is probably one of the hardest books I've ever read. At about 18% I put it down and almost didn't pick it back up. I slept on it. Thought about it. I almost picked up another book, but I couldn't- I had to to see this through.
In Dead of Eve we meet Evie. Evie is probably the strongest female character I've ever read in a book. Evie has survived the loss of her entire family and is this only surviving female in this apocalyptic world. It is unknown how she has survived a virus that killed all the children, women, and left men alive. In this new world she faces aphid monsters, a Drone, his brother, and the the monsters that human men have become.
Our heroine though is not completely alone. She is guided by the spirit of her children and three men. Each man has a role. One is the guardian of her soul. One guards her mind. The last one guards her body.
During this book I cried...
I was angry...
I fell in love with a priest.
And yes, I wanted to corrupt him.
And I was always nervous and on the edge of my seat.
The writing is palpable and will make you feel, smell, see everything the characters are going through. This is an easy book to rate- 5+++ stars.

This is not an easy feel-good story, it’s a brutal tale of survival and tragedy where a woman has to rise above her grief and play the hand she's been dealt.
This was unrelentingly intense, remorseless and savage and at times it brought me to my knees and had me sobbing like a baby.
The pain, misery and torment the unfairness of it all and the depravity of what people are actually capable of when you peel back the layers of civility and expose the rotten carcass.
In Evie’s case, this journey showcased her courage and humanity.
Her sheer will to survive and what she will do to accomplish this surviving by any means necessary.
She is such a strong and capable individual and thanks to her husband has mad survival skills that will help keep her breathing in this new apocalyptic world.
Along this path, Evie has been forced to travel there are still some good individuals left that provide her with a sort of hope to offset the many that don’t.
So this is a hard one to actually classify and pin down It crosses so many boundaries and doesn’t define itself.
There’s also a deep spiritual undertone to all this and that’s probably the only thing I was slightly unsure of initially.
This went places I wasn’t expecting had some fantastic characters the husband Joel, the priest Rourke also Evie’s savage watchdog Jessie and Michio.
Got to say though my favourite was definitely the priest he had all the best lines and I bloody adored him.
This really was a fabulous adventure full of unexpected twists that enthralled me from the second I picked it up, highly recommended.

This book is the beginning of Eve's journey into survival. She is the last female left on earth on this cruel times where a virus has basically killed so many. There's only some survivors but none are females or kids. Eve is bound to find out why she is so special.
In the midst of her journey she meets three males that for a reason she can't explained she develops feelings for them all. The three heroes become her guardians; her protectors; and her strength to survival.
I enjoyed this book, I loved the action, the suspense, the blood didn't bothered me at all. However; I found myself unable to connect in an emotional level with all the heroes except for one and maybe that's MY own fault. You will find plenty of steamy sexy scenes but as hard as this may sound I only enjoyed it with that one hero I'm head over heals for. I don't want to say who because I don't want to discourage anyone from reading this. One thing is for sure if you like menage stories and love dystopian, Apocalypse genre reads you most likely will love this book because the writing was excellent.
I still want to know how this series is going to end so I am moving on the next book. I hope the author breaks my heart on the next book because well I'm a sucker for pain. Haha.

HOLY FREAKING SHIT! Like for real!
I decided to read this book, which is definitely outside of my comfort zone after meeting the fabulous Pam Godwin at a signing. She said there is romance in it, so of course, I was like I am in! I started this book today and couldn't put it down. I felt so many things while reading this story: heartbreak, fear, anxious and love.
Is this my normal read, no, but I can't wait for more. I am terrified for Evie, I am terrified for just how much more she will have to endure, but I have to know!

DNF at about 20% - this made me so fucking angry I couldn't even type this review at first. I've loved other books by this author (which I honestly want to go back and re rate, but I don’t believe in lying) - this book took the fucking piss.
Do you have any idea how much power you have as an author? books are supposed to be escape from reality. I never expected to see this anti muslim rhetoric in my fiction... wow. In a post-apocalyptic (smutty romance)
setting, the last thing I expected to see was an islamophobic sentiment where the 'villains', albeit not direct ones, happened to be muslim extremists. By the fifth or so mention of the word Muslim I was so done, especially how he (how original!)- said some bullshit line about “doing it for Allah” *fucking eye rolling so much*
I’ve literally read enough trashy books to have written my own series by now? Aliens? Polyamory? Shifters? Vampires? Ogres? Werewolves? Dragons? I’VE READ IT ALL, AND ALL OF THESE BOOKS HAVE MANAGED TO SUCCESSFULLY FUNCTION AS ESCAPISM, WITHOUT DRAGGING/ VILLIFYING MUSLIMS IN THEIR NARRATIVE?
With all the potential world building here, how unoriginal to place Muslim extremists as the indirect antagonists in this story, go on, just feed into the rhetoric that pervades almost every media outlet why don't you.... the sheer ignorance here made me so fucking angry, I can't even articulate this properly without swearing.
As an author, books are extremely powerful tools in shaping viewpoints, and normalising casual Islamophobia within novels, via feeding into derogatory depictions of muslim is cheap, and frankly, disrespectful as fuck. It’s clear who the target audience of this book is, and it sure aint me.
if you are confident enough to vilify us in a POST APOCALYPTIC WORLD, Can we ever even escape?? This isn’t the first time I’ve seen this (like epic fantasy authors having weird obsessions with slavery in the worlds they created) - Like, you really thought, instead of, idk, crafting an original, villain, you’d just be lazy and let our material world do the work for you! Fab! Job done. Send it to your editor and go about your day, not even assuming anyone will take an issue with it. After all, what are Muslims, if not terrorists? How could I assume an author would be capable of logical thought and reason? Silly me!
I've never felt so personally attacked by a book before. It was wholly unnecessary to feed into dangerous rhetoric, in a post 9/11, post bush world... scapegoating Muslims, a minority already polarised (and murdered at an alarming rate), in FICTION, (somewhere I go to escape the bullshit of the world!) Fucking go on, reinforce pre existing prejudices surrounding Muslims all being terrorists, that us Muslims have to prove wrong on a daily basis.
As a Muslim girl who has to walk into a room and assess the likelihood of whether I have to “prove wrong” stereotypes, or discern whether the looks I’m getting are typical stiff upper lips, or if they’re just racist, It’s fucking tiring, and I did not need to see this shit. Not today Satan!
I don't know if this is a reflection of the authors personal views regarding Muslims all being extremists, and if it is, none of this has been reflected in the previous books I have read by her. I refuse to read any more of her books out of a moral obligation.

I don't know if this is a reflection of the authors personal views regarding Muslims all being extremists, and if it is, none of this has been reflected in the previous books I have read by her. I refuse to read any more of her books out of a moral obligation.
Was this just a biased media report tarnishing the Muslim name mixed with the walking dead?

Dead of Eve was an exciting and intriguing science fiction/apocalyptic novel that is the first in a trilogy.
A virus has spread throughout the world, killing off women and children. The men who are infected turn into a bug-like creature that feed off of the living. Somehow Evie is not effected. Her and her husband have been staying safe in their home for a couple of months.They have the means to survive with their food supply, weapons, and skills.
In a deep depression after losing both of her children, Evie primarily stays in bed while her husband goes off in search of provisions and answers. One day while checking out their garden, she sees an illusion of her kids, and is then attacked by one if her transformed neighbors. The fight which takes place leaves her feeling alive after months of her depressed state. She then begins to have more visions of her children and other dreams that guide them from the safety of their home.
After the untimely and awful death of her husband, her visions take her on an amazing journey. With her fighting skills and wondering if she is still one of the only women left on the planet, she is going to survive and find out answers. Not only does she need to defend herself from the Aphids, the name that was given to the transformed humans, but human men alike, as they want to take advantage of having a woman in their presence.
In her years of traveling, she comes across three different men. These men protect her, and their caring makes her fall in love with them.
Each man is so different and all have much to offer her by means of safety and love. A man from the Lakota tribe, a priest and a doctor, all play in a role to Evie's strength and heart.
She also finds out why she is the only woman left. What runs through her blood and what is happening to her could save the world and possibly hold the cure for this heinous virus.
Let me start off by saying this is not my typical genre of books. I usually stay away from anything science fiction or paranormal. It's not anything against the type of book, I just find that I have a hard time with different terminology and and let's face it, I'm a perv, so I basically gravitate to the romance and the smut. I was feeling adventurous, and not only want to try something new, but was craving some action. Since loving everything else written by Pam Godwin, I decided to give this one a shot. I was clearly impressed even without having a lot of experience with the type of book.
It kept me engaged from the very beginning and was definitely action-packed. I loved how everything was pieced together to make it a very exciting and well thought out read. Evie was a kick ass heroine, which is always a major plus. The three heroes were also amazing, and for the third time in a book, I found myself swooning over a priest (I must have a new fetish...).
I could not possibly go into the journey, as its a great experience to go through on your own. I am still not sure if this made me a fan of this type of book, or more of a fan of the range that Pam writes about. Either way, I will continue with this series. I need to know what takes place next and am very curious to how the whole love-square will play out. Even though the men are understanding, their possessiveness and jealousy will definitely add to the excitement of the story. As this came out in 2012, I have no clue when the next book comes out.
Would recommend if you like this genre of books, or if you want to try something out of your comfort zone. I will say this book has a lot of gore and some situations that some people may be sensitive to.
I have no regrets.

This story consumed me, devoured me whole, and won't ever let me go. I am awed by this author, captivated by the complexity of the story, and fearful that I may not survive until the next book comes out!

I loved this author's book, DELIVER, but nothing of hers I've read since can recapture that magic for me. DEAD OF EVE had a lot of problems, though. It's a post-apocalyptic book where a "Muslim insurgency" has unleashed a plague upon the U.S. that turns them all into bug people. The xenophobic/mutant plot kind of reads like something you would see in a 1950s Z movie, that could just as easily be called "Invasion of the Bug People" or "The Last Woman on Earth." You see, all the women have died, as the men mutated, except for Evie.
This post-apocalyptic nightmare is basically her gun nut husband's wet dream. He's prepared for this his whole life, you see. He trains his wife to use weapons but still treats her and talks to her like a child. I get that it's ostensibly because he loves her and is afraid during these terrible circumstances, but he comes across as a major ass. I'm guessing he probably dies at some point, but he's in it for the long haul in the beginning.
The book summary makes it sound like this is going to be a reverse-harem, but I read one of my friends' reviews and if it is a reverse-harem, it's a very slow to start one, because she said that by 60% in, there still wasn't any reverse-harem action. I didn't read this book for that, but if you are, that's something to think about. I was put off by the extremist themes in the book and some less-than-stellar writing. I do think this will appeal to people who like those campy 1950s movies, but that person is not me.

I thought this was going to be about zombies, but the fantasy involves a lot more than just mindless walkers. The creatures are more like mutated monsters that have the ability to move quickly.
Their infectious bite left the world with only a few survivors.
And only one woman.
As Evie struggles to survive, strange things happen to her body because she's evolving too. As she travels around the world to find a cure, she finds allies to help her on her journey.
This story is exciting, suspenseful, and dark. As the only woman left, she gets a lot of unwanted attention. So if you're wondering about there being a rape scene, there is one short scene.

If you like apocalyptic genre do not be discouraged by my rating, writing was excellent and you will probably love this book. I loved it myself and would rate it with 5 stars until two thirds... Than I could not stomach what was happening and it kind of ruined whole story for me so I am going with middle rating even though writing style really enraptured me.

Evie is 33 years old with a husband of 15 years and the only woman who survived virus which killed all kids, old people and mutated plenty of adults into killing parasites all over the world. She is shaken by the death of her little son and daughter, she does not live just survives. However, questions arise. Why is she only woman to survive virus? What is different about her? Seems like universe has some special plan for her...
From time to time I like to read books out of my comfort zone and this was exactly one of them. Dead of Eve is not a fairytale story, nor it is for faint-hearted readers. Some heavy and depressesive stuff is happening here and there. So beside really exciting action filled scenes, I was cringing quite often too. But it did not bother me, it was suitable for this genre. Dead of Eve is rough story of apocalyptic life, story about survival, inner strenght and spirit.
I really liked Evie and admired her ability to keep going despite all those terrible things that had happened to her. But as much as I liked her in the first half, I almost could not stand her towards the end. Evie had to not only fight with mutants but also to face her personal demons and situations arising from the fact that she is the only living woman amongst men. I understood that she was hurting, I understood that there was so much pressure on her but I just could not understand her relationships. For me, it was just sick and there were times I was even considering not finishing this story because of how annoyed I was with her. But curiosity kept me reading.
Oh and some scenes were really hot, I definitely did not expected that from apocalyptic story but it was quite a welcomed surprise.
I am still not sure if I am going to continue with this series. Probably yes because I want to know how are things going to develop and I am very curious creature. Anyway, as I mentioned before, I liked style of writing a lot so I will be definitely keeping an eye on this author and her other projects.

I was bored out of my mind. I felt like the story wasn't whole, that things didn't add up. I also felt like Evie's story was way over, even though it apparently has just begun. Typical that she is just one woman, and got three men loving her. I kept waiting for the book to be over. It's also typical that I didn't enjoy the book, while other seem to love it. I finished it though, so applause to me.

4 ½ stars. Excellent suspense throughout the book. Kept me awake at night. Good writing! It’s apocalyptic sci fi.
Emotionally engaging. I didn’t want to stop reading. It reminded me of Stephen King stories: good story, creative characters, violence, some good people die. It also felt part Star Wars: lots of fight scenes and being in the belly of the beast. There are some loving relationships. They support the plot in an interesting way. I liked the idea of Evie using something from men.
Story Brief:
A virus causes humans to turn into insect-like creatures. It causes most women to die. The result is maybe 10 to 15% of the human race left alive. Evie seems to be the only female alive. Huge numbers of insect creatures now roam the earth killing humans.
The Series:
This is first in a trilogy. I was pleased with the ending. It felt good. Good guys survive and have more knowledge. Bad guys and insect creatures still exist which feed into the sequel, but not in a frustrating cliffhanger way. Books 2 and 3 are Blood of Eve and Dawn of Eve.
I liked that there were no artificial cliffhangers at the ends of chapters. Instead suspense builds naturally through the story. It was good suspense. And the author did NOT use artificial devices to create suspense (like a character only saying part of what they mean, so the reader has to wait to know the rest, something that frustrated me recently in other books). This was well done.
Heroine Stupidity:
Sadly there was one instance of heroine stupidity that hurt the book for me. It was a crisis fight scene. A huge number of the enemy is attacking. Evie is able to do something to fight the enemy and protect herself and her group. She is in a protected spot. Then she hears a victim scream, stops doing what she is doing, leaves her protected spot, and gets grabbed by the bad guy. Why did the three strong men (next to her protecting her) not stop her?
Another Problem - Dialect & Foreign Words:
Roark is Irish. Many of his words are phonetically spelled Irish dialect. I did not understand what he was saying. I had to skip his words and guess. Example: “Wen’ be needing a car.” (Was this “when” or “we en” or “we and”? I figured out afterwards it was “won’t”.) I like what Sol Stein says in his book “Stein On Writing.” He cautions against odd spellings to show dialect which is “annoying to the reader. It takes extra effort to derive the meaning of words on the page; that effort deters full involvement in the experience of a story.” Regarding the use of foreign words Stein suggests “the occasional foreign word that would be understood in context.” My problem was too many foreign words used by Roark that I did not understand. For example: No foostering. Did ye manage without a posser? Ye redirected (them) before ye couped. I’d be ok if translations were put in parentheses or italics right after the foreign words. Or just use simpler Irish sounding words that I would understand like bonny girl and lass.
There is Violence, Sex, and Brutality.
There are rape scenes and sex scenes, but not with a lot of detail. They are briefly done. Sex scenes include self pleasuring and men with men sodomy.
Not a problem, but wanting more.
Jesse did important things behind the scenes. I would have liked seeing some of the things he did and how he was able to do them. The author would need to switch to third person for those parts. Many authors have successfully mixed first and third person. I would have loved having that. As it is, the entire book is first person Evie.
Chapter Introductions - I have mixed feelings.
At the beginning of each chapter there is a quote from a famous person. This is not a problem when reading the physical book, because I skipped most of them. But it would be irritating to me if listening to an audiobook because they interrupt the story. Audio listeners cannot skip them. On the other hand, after reading the book, I went back and looked at them. I loved the wide variety of sources. Just seeing the authors’ names elicited neat feelings: Helen Keller, Shakespeare, Edgar Allen Poe, Emily Dickinson, Joseph Campbell, Joan of Arc, Bhagavad-Gita. I liked some of the thoughts. But I’d prefer them at the beginning of the book, or maybe a couple in the middle of the book, but not for every chapter.

First book of the Trilogy!!
I got advance readers copy since I am that special :)
This book hooked me from the very beginning. Trying to straitening my hair and read just to figure out what happens next trying not to burn my fingers, That's when I know I am HOOKED....
This book may not be for everyone. It does contain strong sexual violence and death. The ghost of her children gave me goose bumps. But went perfect in the book, to me!!!

I fell in love with all of the characters, my only negative feedback would be that I just wish Joel would have stayed alive longer and went on the journey with Eve. But then again it would be kind of hard to have him still with her, cause than you might not meet the guardians.
Speaking of the Guardians, I really liked how they all had this inseparable bond to Eve, they protected her, and kept her safe.
I can't wait to see what happens next in the Blood of Eve with all of the characters. They all have such promises, I'm very excited to see where Evie takes us next.

UNRATED
Like a feminist's wet dream and the politically correct's nightmare all in one book.
So the world ended with a Muslim extremist movement dropping a virus that turned humans into insect-like creatures called Aphids. All woman-kind have been wiped out save for one, Evie Delina. Now Evie is special: she moves like these creatures while having an uncanny connection to them. This sounds a lot like Resident Evil to be honest, with a lot of extra side dishes to the heroine. Not only is Evie the only surviving woman in the world but she's also this side of a nymphomaniac and she's been having visions of an unspeakable evil and delusions of her dead kids.
That formula sounds so awesome, it might have just won AND broken the internet under our unsuspecting noses.
I actually enjoyed reading this book. The writing was gritty and far from pedestrian and the story was fast-paced and packed with enough action and drama that keeps you reading just one more chapter before going to bed (except for that stretch with the Lakotas where the story floundered a little). I also appreciated the author's efforts to devote some credibility to the science behind the mutations (SCIENCE RULES!).
The heroine went through a lot of physical, emotional and psychological upheavals that give further credence to the men being at awe of her strength. Not so much her attractiveness though (which was repeatedly mentioned), because if you're the last woman on earth, technically you ARE the most beautiful woman in the world.
I liked her harem of hot guys, Roark most especially because of what he is and the turmoil his love for Evie brings to the poorly balanced equation of his vows and his humanity. The actual purpose of these so-called 'Guardians' veered a little on the Mary Sue/camp border and the dialogues between Evie and these men got a little cheesy in the end but not to the detriment of the plot as a whole.
I was expecting the volume of graphic sex to approach Varian Krylov Levels because of course everyone wants to have sex with Evie, she's the last woman on earth. And of course Evie wants to bang everyone, she's a sex addict. I was pleasantly surprised how well-spaced the sex scenes were but when it was sexy time, it was REALLY sexy. This book had M/M and M/F rape, incest, taboo sex... the usual run-of-the-mill things the hardcore few will not really get squeamish over.
With all that loveliness, I'm leaving this unrated because I'm having a hard time to objectively rate this on story alone.
So a great, testosterone read but I don't know if I can continue with this series. I liked the story and I'm super curious on how the love-square between Evie and her guardians would turn out. But I also understand stories are not necessarily written to please the readers and I respect that enough to not pursue the ones that challenge me beyond my comfort zones (I seriously thought mine was broad enough to begin with).
Like a feminist's wet dream and the politically correct's nightmare all in one book.
So the world ended with a Muslim extremist movement dropping a virus that turned humans into insect-like creatures called Aphids. All woman-kind have been wiped out save for one, Evie Delina. Now Evie is special: she moves like these creatures while having an uncanny connection to them. This sounds a lot like Resident Evil to be honest, with a lot of extra side dishes to the heroine. Not only is Evie the only surviving woman in the world but she's also this side of a nymphomaniac and she's been having visions of an unspeakable evil and delusions of her dead kids.
That formula sounds so awesome, it might have just won AND broken the internet under our unsuspecting noses.
I actually enjoyed reading this book. The writing was gritty and far from pedestrian and the story was fast-paced and packed with enough action and drama that keeps you reading just one more chapter before going to bed (except for that stretch with the Lakotas where the story floundered a little). I also appreciated the author's efforts to devote some credibility to the science behind the mutations (SCIENCE RULES!).
The heroine went through a lot of physical, emotional and psychological upheavals that give further credence to the men being at awe of her strength. Not so much her attractiveness though (which was repeatedly mentioned), because if you're the last woman on earth, technically you ARE the most beautiful woman in the world.
I liked her harem of hot guys, Roark most especially because of what he is and the turmoil his love for Evie brings to the poorly balanced equation of his vows and his humanity. The actual purpose of these so-called 'Guardians' veered a little on the Mary Sue/camp border and the dialogues between Evie and these men got a little cheesy in the end but not to the detriment of the plot as a whole.
I was expecting the volume of graphic sex to approach Varian Krylov Levels because of course everyone wants to have sex with Evie, she's the last woman on earth. And of course Evie wants to bang everyone, she's a sex addict. I was pleasantly surprised how well-spaced the sex scenes were but when it was sexy time, it was REALLY sexy. This book had M/M and M/F rape, incest, taboo sex... the usual run-of-the-mill things the hardcore few will not really get squeamish over.
With all that loveliness, I'm leaving this unrated because I'm having a hard time to objectively rate this on story alone.

Dead of Eve by Pam Godwin

5 Stars because 10 isn't an option
Never in my life have I read a book like this one... I have to admit... as a kid, I was always the first in line to see a Freddie Krueger or Jason Vorhee movie, horror/science fiction was always a favorite of mine... now at 42 years of age... I'm not so sure... this book scared the ever lovin' shite out me... I literally had nightmares!!! I would wake up with a start... still holding my Kindle... then I figured, I was up... might as well read some more.... bwahahaha!!! I'm usually a romance/BDSM/Paranormal kinda girl... but when Pam asked me about reading this... I was happy to oblige'!!!
Eve is (by my account) the luckiest girl in the world at this point... I mean, come on... uber kickass fighting skills, a hot husband, immunity, etc... the list goes on and on... I know she totally suffered huge hardships... but believe me when I tell you... it only made her stronger... in mind and body!!!
Pam's writing style is like no others I've ever read before... it's very far out there... but still very scary, though believable!!! I can't imagine having an imagination like the one Pam has... this book just kept surprising me at every turn of the page... I especially like all the quotes at the beginning of each chapter and the bugs are a nice touch!!! I'm a bit of an arachnophobia dork... sooooo... the whole premise of this book had me feeling all creeping crawly!!! Bugs... who'd of thought... Pam Godwin... that's who!!!
After numerous tragedies, hot sex scenes, the Drone, and more aphids then you can shake a stick at... I'd have to say that I'm thoroughly (a Pam quote) "hotter'n a taste bud in a pepper eating contest!" Trust me when I tell you... Eve totally lucks out when it comes to the sex department!!! Not that I would want to be the only woman left on earth... but holy hell... she gets some... some some!!! Know what I mean!!!
One of my favorite quotes from the book... by Pablo Neruda: "So I wait for you like a lonely house till you will see me again and live in me. Till then my windows will ache!" **sigh**
To wrap this up in a nutshell.... this book/story is scary, funny, sexy, believable, and above all.... EXCELLENT!! The writing style is one of the best in the biz, the pacing is superb and I'll never look at Pam the same way again! LOL! Pick up your copy today... This book rivals Stephen King... it could easily be a Box Office HIT!!!!

DNF at about 40% (it's been almost a year so I honestly don't remember how far I made it before deciding to not finish it).
The basic plot of a woman being on her own in a post-apocalyptic world where mutated bug-like humans are killing and feasting on the few "normal" humans left is not bad. The idea of Eve being one of the last women in her area (or in the world?) is interesting too, but the execution was just not for me. I don't mind darker books and triggering themes such as rape, but I still couldn't get into this one. For some reason, the main character just annoyed me SO MUCH.
The fact that this mutation or plague was started by an extremist group of Muslims and that it keeps being brought back almost made it feel like bad propaganda at times, which is something that really bothered me, and ultimately made me decide to stop forcing myself to read this book.
I will still give a try to Pam Godwin's other books, because I LOVED Sea of Ruin, but Dead of Eve just wasn't for me.

Okay, so this book is an unrepentant ridiculous sci-fi sexy mess, that somehow still has really human moments. But it's so damn weird. And yet I like it?
You probably shouldn't trust my judgement when it comes to books about giant mutant aphids, lots o' guns, and boning. But hey, I (kinda) like what I like.

As usual, Pam Godwin left me in stunned awe. She's a freakin' amazing writer!
The book kept me on my toes the whole time, I was hooked from the first page, it was like I've been transferred to anther word.
it wasn't an easy read! It was much more....
Amazing.Thrilling. Terrifying. Suspenseful. Brutal. Apocalyptic. Creative. violent. HOT.
How shocking it was to see how human cruel and ugly nature manifests when subjected to such situation. How they turn into something much uglier and brutal than the monsters they were fighting! At least the monsters've lost their humanity!
"But I never had to wait for fear. It always sneaked up and took me by surprise."
Evie is probably one of the most strong heroine I've read about so far.
For an unknown reason she was the last women survived after a virus killed all the children and women but left men.
She faced a lot of horror and disasters no normal human could bear, but she fought and held her ground.
She was also protected by her children's spirits and 3 guardians.
Her relationship with each one of them (a Lakota worrier jess, a priest Roark, a doctor Michio), and the role each one of them played in her survival trip, was like the magical glue holding up the broken pieces, It was amazingly brilliantly written!
I perfectly understood and enjoyed her connection with the three -hot as sin alpha male-guardians.
sometimes It was very HOT, even though the sex wasn't detailed as much as I would've preferred but I still enjoyed it. Other times it their relationship with each other was hilariously funny. Like when they talked about their relationship mechanism with her...those parts made me LOL.
I was also really intrigued by the reason of all of this mess. History tells us the reason behind the most brutal and cruel wars over the years was in the name of God so using that reason here in this apocalyptic disaster was fascinating and realistic, it also hrlped alot that it was described flawlessly.
Those self-righteous people, who hide their sick fucked up nature behind a pretext of being a good believer or men of God, they always think they are better than everybody else, that they are the choosen ones to right the wrong people have done, even though they are the main reason for disturbance around the world. They never see the wrongness and horror they do and cause,only other's.
No religion tempts it's believers to kill innocent people, rape women or spread terror and destruction like that!
It's the people who disrepute a religion or a certain believe!
Anyway, the character developed really well. The anticipation and build up were perfect and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. The sexual tension was palpable throughout the pages!
The writing as usual was a live. I felt, smelled and saw everything like I was there. Also as usual, Pam Godwin broke my heart then glued it back together and gave me hope.
Her writing is like a salve on a wound. Something that soothes the terrible things happen in her books and makes the reader able to bear all of it. It's an amazingly wicked talent of her.
Again This is not an easy read, it contains rape, violent, good people killed, brutality and so much more....
Finally thanks Pam Godwin for delivering such a creative brilliant book!

What in the apocalyptic world did I just read? This is a book unlike any that I have ever read. Pam Godwin has created an awesomely horrific new world where you have to fight just to live. The characters she has created are wonderfully complex and devotedly delicious. I have fallen in love with three remarkable men. Three men who are completely different from one another, with their own strengths and weaknesses, but who all have one goal in common, to guard and protect the last unaffected woman on Earth. Evie is a sexy, determined, very capable woman who exudes great, supernatural strength. She is strong both in body and mind. What she has been through would stop almost everyone, but Evie is an overcomer and quite possibly posses the cure for all mankind. The relationships she has with each of her three men are steamy, angst-filled, out-of-the-norm, but somehow make complete sense. I do have a favorite, but I'll keep that to myself as to not sway your opinion. I can't wait to jump into the next book in this series, Blood of Eve. I need to see what Evie does next. I highly recommend this riveting story!

Pam Godwin delivers the perfect amount of suspense and action, the characters fold into the story like butter, I was hypnotized into the world she created. Unconventional, heartbreaking, and darkly beautiful. I couldn't look away.
Eve, the last woman on earth. An earth in complete destruction. I was instantly drawn to her story. The revelations were devastating. I felt every ounce of sadness. I've never read a story like this. With each chapter, it felt like I was walking in her shoes. The pain and undergoing of self reliance soaked into to my bones. There's many characters that help through the journey, but Eve is who I wanted to overcome obstacle after obstacle. I wanted her fight and I got it. This book is going like walking into another world with a knife in your hand. Just open your mind and enjoy.
I have to say this before I go. I feel, if you haven't read this book, you really don't know the talent of Pam Godwin. I'm in awe.

Amazing book and one of the BEST heroines I have EVER read.

Don't let the blurb deter you from reading this book. There is so much more then just gore and monsters. It's downright brilliant!
What an emotionl roller coaster ride. Evie was so real and I felt everything that women went through. I can't wait for book 2 in the trilogy!

This author has a clear, easy to read way of writing, with pretty clean text. The idea behind this plot - a virus that turns everyone into bugs? Sweet. A kick-ass heroine? Nice. Sex? Bonus!
As it happens, once I hit the eye-rolling zone, I had difficulty getting out of it. Either you can roll with it or you can't, and at the time I just wasn't in the mood I think. This is heavy fantasy, and I'm more of a sci-fi gal (unless we're talking magic). It's also got quite a bit of spirituality in it. I don't mean people speaking in tongues or shouting about "Jaysus!" It's more of the ghosts, mysteries, and vision quests sort. Sounds ok on the surface, but not my thing at all. So, while I had a lot to complain about in this book, I'm not going to say it was bad. I am going to say it was bad for me. Yes, there is a difference. :-)
So, our leading lady, she likes sex. She falls in love just like *that* (that's fingers snapping there). She's badass. She knows how to do all sorts of things the rest of us mere mortals have never, nor will ever, learn how to do, if we have ever even heard of them in the first place. Men like her. A lot. There are a lot of strange excuses for sex in this book. Usually I'd find that a bonus, but in this one, since I felt no connection to Evie, well... meh. Tingle-free. Oh well.
The men that don't like her want to use her. There are definitely some ugly scenes in this book. If you find sexual assault scenes uncomfortable, skip this one. Don't let someone try to convince you it's part of a bigger spiritual journey plot blah blah blah, because it'll still make you uncomfortable. I was bothered by the fact that apparently all men are either evil or saints in this book. They bear little resemblance to the men we know - and while I think in a post-apocalyptic scenario people would change, sometimes quite severely, the recounting of those changes here was just too unbelievable.
Anyway, if you're considering this book... give it a 1/4 of the way. You'll know by then whether it's going to work for you. I was good for the first few dozen pages but knew by page 100 it wasn't going to go on my list of favorites. 2.5 stars.

So when I saw the blurb for this I knew I had to read it. Dystopian romance is one of my trash tropes. But this was on a whole other level. Absolutely original take on the trope and I was captivated throughout the book with Eve and this world.

After losing what no woman should ever have to lose she embarks on a quest for answers to the virus. Battling against the remaining men and monsters She discovers that she has some special abilities of her own as well as a few tasty men on her side. The entire book is jam packed with action and emotion.
I don't know how Pam melded all these things together so effortlessly but this was an epic read for me. If you love zombie movies, end of the world novels, horror, steam, a touch of supernatural vibes, and can handle some darkness I highly recommend checking this one out. Even if you don't think a romance with monsters and scifi touches is for you this is so amazingly done I would say it will convert you.

To say I was shocked by this book is an understatement. I followed Pam Godwin on twitter because I saw she was a fellow writer. And it just so happened her book was coming out. How could I not read it?
I was unprepared for how good it was.
At her worst moments in the book, Godwin writes with the detail and energy of Richard Laymon. In her best moments she is something more than that: original, vibrant and completely engrossing. This is not another Buffy Summers clone. Eve is a fresh and, like every one else in the book, I fell in love with her.
SYNOPSIS:
It's the end of the world as we know it. Because I bought this book blind, not even reading the description, I expected zombies. Instead we have something much more fun and original: human-aphid hybrids created through and act of biological warfare. Our protagonist is a woman named Eve who had the good sense to marry a man who taught her to fight, to shoot guns and throw knives. (For the record, this sounds exactly like my father). She is the perfect person to survive the apocalypse...except she has been emotionally crushed. At the beginning of the book she has suffered a loss that could destroy anyone. Yet, as the story progresses, she quickly overcomes her emotional trauma to become an amazing strong character.
Let me back up for a second. I'm not a fan of Superman-like characters. You know the ones I mean, the nearly invincible ones without any character flaws. That is not Eve. Her strength is completely believable and she has some serious flaws. She also shows incredible vulnerability which makes her moments of strength all the more rewarding.
A word of warning, this is an adult book. There is sex. A lot of sex. Maybe even too much sex (which I don't think a man has ever said before). There is also incredibly realistic violence which never strays into the gratuitous. So think twice before letting your kids read it.
CONCLUSION:
Do yourself a favor. Stop what you are doing and buy this book. Read it. Do it now. I am very much looking forward to the sequel.

At her worst moments in the book, Godwin writes with the detail and energy of Richard Laymon. In her best moments she is something more than that: original, vibrant and completely engrossing. This is not another Buffy Summers clone. Eve is a fresh and, like every one else in the book, I fell in love with her.
SYNOPSIS:
It's the end of the world as we know it. Because I bought this book blind, not even reading the description, I expected zombies. Instead we have something much more fun and original: human-aphid hybrids created through and act of biological warfare. Our protagonist is a woman named Eve who had the good sense to marry a man who taught her to fight, to shoot guns and throw knives. (For the record, this sounds exactly like my father). She is the perfect person to survive the apocalypse...except she has been emotionally crushed. At the beginning of the book she has suffered a loss that could destroy anyone. Yet, as the story progresses, she quickly overcomes her emotional trauma to become an amazing strong character.
Let me back up for a second. I'm not a fan of Superman-like characters. You know the ones I mean, the nearly invincible ones without any character flaws. That is not Eve. Her strength is completely believable and she has some serious flaws. She also shows incredible vulnerability which makes her moments of strength all the more rewarding.
A word of warning, this is an adult book. There is sex. A lot of sex. Maybe even too much sex (which I don't think a man has ever said before). There is also incredibly realistic violence which never strays into the gratuitous. So think twice before letting your kids read it.
CONCLUSION:
Do yourself a favor. Stop what you are doing and buy this book. Read it. Do it now. I am very much looking forward to the sequel.
